Nonuniform electron distributions in a solenoidal ioniser

چکیده
Abstract Solenoidal ionisers are a new class of highly efficient helium detectors that increasingly important for high resolution atom scattering, molecular scattering and scanning microscopy. They operate via electron ionisation, where the electrons trapped by magnetic field solenoid additional electrostatic potentials. Their ionisation efficiency scales with population they contain, motivating large devices emission currents. However, these typically become unstable at densities, constraining their performance improvement. Through imaging exit ioniser, we demonstrate instabilities arise from non-uniformities in distribution. Considering ioniser as non-neutral plasma leads to proposal formation virtual cathode instability origins non-uniformity.

Electron Beam Generated Solitary Structures in a Nonuniform Plasma System
Recent observations by the FAST satellite have identified numerous occurrences in the downward auroral current region of fast solitary structures with a characteristic size of a few local Debye lengths. We utilize a 2.5D electrostatic particle-in-cell code to investigate the generation of such structures by the interaction of narrow energetic electron beams with a gravitationally-bound exponent...
متن کاملLearning Spatial Invariance with the Trace Rule in Nonuniform Distributions
Convolutional models of object recognition achieve invariance to spatial transformations largely because of the use of a suitably defined pooling operator. This operator typically takes the form of a max or average function defined across units tuned to the same feature. As a model of the brain's ventral pathway, where computations are carried out by weighted synaptic connections, such pooling ...
متن کاملComparison of Electron-Beam Dose Distributions in a Heterogeneous Phantom Obtained Using Radiochromic Film Dosimetry and Monte Carlo Simulation
Introduction: Nowadays new radiochromic films have an essential role in radiotherapy dosimetry. Properties such as high sensitivity, good reproducibility, high spatial resolution, easy readout and portability have made them attractive for dosimetry, especially in high-dose-gradient regions. Material and Methods: In this study, electron-beam dose distributions in homogenous and heterogeneous pha...

We describe an electron spectrometer designed for a precision measurement of the neutron β-asymmetry with spin-polarized ultracold neutrons. The spectrometer consists of a 1.0-Tesla solenoidal field with two identical multiwire proportional chamber and plastic scintillator electron detector packages situated within 0.6-Tesla fieldexpansion regions. Select results from performance studies of the...
متن کاملElectron-positron pair production by photons in nonuniform strong fields.
A probability of electron-positron pair production by photons in strong nonuniform fields is derived by applying a model trajectory method in the frame of a semiclassical approach. In addition to the well known invariant field parameter chi, a new invariant parameter nu is introduced to characterize the nonuniformity of the field. For nu>>1, the obtained expression is reduced to the uniform-fie...
